On the second floor of a nondescript warehouse owned by New York City's Sanitation Department in East Harlem is a treasure trove—filled with other people's trash. Most of the building is used as a depot for garbage trucks, but there's a secret museum that takes over an entire floor.

<![CDATA[An Object Oriented Glitch Ontology?]]> http://machinemachine.net/portfolio/an-object-oriented-glitch-ontology

I took a trip to Chicago for GLI.TC/H 2112! – A conference/festival/carnival/movement in honour (and despite) of hardware/software/wetware errors, databends and feedback blackholes. I took a ton of photographs, you can view them on Flickr (better quality) or Facebook (dotted with comments, insights and exultations from the GLI.TC/H community). I intend to write more about the event, but for now I will post my talk here, which I gave on Saturday 8th December. It’s title is Glitches in Things and the “Friendly Medium”, a talk expanding on an idea I have been carting around for a couple of years now. Updated with Object Oriented insights I hope it acts as a mental toolkit for artists looking to dance with objects, in all their glitchy splendour. As usual, I completely ignored my notes whilst talking, for this reason it’s worth listening to the question and answer bit afterwards. Infinite thanks must go to Rosa Menkman, Jon Satrom and Nick Briz – the GLI.TC/H Bots at the heart of the fest. Thank you for inviting me to participate. More on OOO, glitches, kipple and Things to come reeeeal soon… (the talky bit starts a few minutes in)

<![CDATA[Like Karaoke Machines in Manchester Meatspace]]> http://glti.ch/like-karaoke-machines-in-manchester-meatspace/

We awoke Bleary eyed today, memories buzzing in our noisy heads. Did last night really happen? Were you there? Can you prove it? Machines by Other Means, an event curated by Christina Millare and Cornerhouse for Abandon Normal Devices Festival, was bound to be a winner. Five hotel rooms in The Salutation Hotel & Pub were to become the venue for a whole series of monstrously noisy events. Noisy sounds; noisy approaches; noisy intentions. A house party in a hotel is so right for GLTI.CH Karaoke it hurts. And it did hurt, in a good way. Countless joyful krooners crammed into our meagre space, propping themselves up on springy hotel beds and tasty Northern fine ales. We were joined by a whole host of online head-swayers, who logged into our tinychat webspace from 9pm until 2am (Seoul/London/Berlin/?????). They sang, we sang louder; they laughed; we laughed with them; they requested songs, we gathered around the webcam and joined in singing with them. It was a ball. Below are some photos of the event (see them on Facebook too), with some snazzy official press photos to follow . Videos have been rumoured to exist… Lots of thanks to EVERYONE who attended, live in Manchester Meatspace, or virtually via the magical interwebs. Please leave a comment if you were there, or hit us up at our Facebook and Twitter pages. Special thanks to Jennifer Chan, Nathan Jones, Antonio Roberts, Rosa Menkman, Mark Amerika, Bo Ningen, Linda Stupart for trying to logon so hard, and especially Christina Millare and everyone at the Cornerhouse for putting up with us!

<![CDATA[Ways Machines Can Hurt You]]> http://www.notcot.com/archives/2012/03/ways-machines-can-hurt-you.php

Wandering the LA Convention Center at WESTEC - the ultimate manufacturing show from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers… wandering the amazing tools, waterjets, 3D printers, CNCs, microCNCs, robot arms, welding devices… and SO much more. With mobile phone in hand, i walked away with even MORE pictures than you’ll see on the next page of warning graphics labels than i imagined. They are AWESOME. You can see about 30 of my favorites on the next page… it’s amazing how many ways these machines can hurt you… and the way they are depicted! See the graphical goodness on the next page!

As ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano continued to keep European airspace shut down over the weekend, affecting millions of travelers around the world, some government agencies and airlines clashed over the flight bans. Some restricted airspace is now beginning to open up and some limited flights are being allowed now as airlines are pushing for the ability to judge safety conditions for themselves. The volcano continues to rumble and hurl ash skyward, if at a slightly diminished rate now, as the dispersing ash plume has dropped closer to the ground, and the World Health Organization has issued a health warning to Europeans with respiratory conditions. Collected here are some images from Iceland over the past few days. (35 photos total)

<![CDATA[Time Traveler Caught in Museum Photo? | forgetomori]]> http://forgetomori.com/2010/fortean/time-traveler-caught-in-museum-photo/

It’s the short description for the photograph shown at the virtual Bralorne Pioneer Museum, from British Columbia, Canada. The image can be seen specifically on this page (scroll down to the middle), among other items of the online exhibit. Did you notice anything out of place? Or perhaps, out of time? The man with what appears to be very modern sunglasses seems to be wearing a stamped T-shirt with a nice sweater, all the while holding a portable compact camera!

<![CDATA[Manipulating Reality - How Images Redefine the World]]> http://www.we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/2010/01/-tatjana-hallbaum-in-between.php

Manipulating Reality presents a selection of 23 artistic approaches that work through photography and video to develop possible models of reality. Its aim is not to understand whether photographs can convey reality but how this can occur. The works exhibited represent different artistic strategies addressing the construction, reflection or distortion of reality in images. In addition to investigating the value of documentary photography today, many of the artists presented reflect in part the conditions of the tool of photography and adopt known artistic techniques such as collage, presentation in model form, abstraction and the assemblage of different elements.

<![CDATA[IMG MGMT: Teen Image]]> http://www.artfagcity.com/2009/10/22/img-mgmt-teen-image/

IMG MGMT is an annual image-based artist essay series. Today’s invited artist, Seth Price presents an essay challenging the traditional photo essay format.

  1. Ritualized Unknowing People keep trying to get a handle on what’s happening. There’s a fear that others are hastening to make startling connections among the raw material, tracing lines between points we didn’t even know existed. Exacerbating this anxiety is the fact that despite its supposed insistence on the consolidation of knowledge and the worth of information, the Internet produces ritualized unknowing. You could say, however, that this is a good thing, for it provokes a desire to remystify the frenzy of technological change through ritual, through a personal and allegorical rehearsal of what is perceived to be a manic and distorting increase in density, a compression exponentially telescoping in reach and magnitude.

<![CDATA[Abandoned Places In The World]]> http://www.dirjournal.com/info/abandoned-places-in-the-world/

When starting on this post for some reason I was thinking that there are not many abandoned places in the world, at least the cities. I knew there are many villages, farms and just lonely houses all around the world but when thousands of people leave, leaving the whole city dead that’s a real tragedy. There are mainly two reasons why people suddenly or little by little leave the place where they used to live for years or even generations: that’s the danger and economic factors. The biggest number of abandoned villages and farms can be found in Unites States and the countries of the former USSR.

Visiting abandoned places is getting more and more popular these days and many tourist agencies offer special tours where people can meet the ghost cities and villages face to face. I have never been to any of these and frankly speaking I don’t want to. I thinks we should leave the ghosts in peace, especially in the places like Pripyat where the horrible tragedy took place.

Still hobbies diffe
